METALLIC MAGIC

The "metallic magic" look is all about creating a slightly futuristic feel to your home. It's also a very sophisticated look, with shimmering metallics glinting against muted colours, and easy to do. Choose shades of moody blue and battle-grey, and contrast with stylish chrome and glass accessories. Artists' canvases painted with complementary tones of silvers and greys also look fantastic in this context. Make more of a focal point of the panels by directing light so that it reflects the metallic paint, to create a shimmering effect. White architectural flower arrangements are best suited for this look.

LEVEL OF EXPERTISE: 1 star, 1 star = extremely simple; 5 stars = not so straightforward.
WHAT YOU NEED: A minimum of three artist's canvas or solid thick card; water-based acrylic paint for base coat; water based acrylic paint in metallic silver and gunmetal grey; small paint roller; ruler, pencil, masking tape, paint brush.

SUITABLE AREAS:
Any wall that is big enough to accommodate the three canvases.

STEPS TO SUCCESS FOR THIS PAINT PROJECT

Step 1: Prime all three artists canvas boards with one coat of white acrylic paint as a base coat using a paint brush and allow to dry thoroughly.

Step 2: Decide on which paint colour/finish you want as the dominant look and paint all three boards in this colour and allow to dry. A high quality acrylic metallic finish looks great, a silvery grey works really well.

Step 3: Using a ruler and a pencil, divide each canvas into three equal sections. Then, using strips of masking tape, section off the top third of board one; bottom third of board two; and, the middle section of board three.

Step 4: Using a small paint roller, apply the second colour on the sectioned-off areas on each board. Allow to dry and carefully remove masking tape.

Step 5: Choose where you wish to hang the three canvases. Ensure you have equal spacing between the three canvases by using a ruler.
