The colour green, in
its many shades, is a perennial favorite
as it instantly
creates an aura of harmony, balance. Green is of course eminently versatile.
This project gives a stark, white modern interior a new twist by painting wide
horizontal bands in three shades of soft sage and olive greens. Add classic modern
furniture and accessories to create a timeless yet ultra-modern style. Splashes
of bright colour–brilliant pink for example - looks stunning against muted
sage and olive greens. |

LEVEL OF EXPERTISE:
Suitable for beginners = 3 Stars
1 star = extremely simple, 5 stars = not so straightforward. |

 |
WHAT
YOU NEED: Water-based acrylic paints in three different shades
of soft green, small to medium paint roller and tray, tape
measure, soft pencil, spirit level, low-tack adhesive masking tape. |
 |
SUITABLE AREAS: Walls. However, this dominant feature should be painted
on one wall only. Ensure you have a properly prepared wall
surface painted in a white base coat using a water-based acrylic paint.
|
|
STEPS ON HOW TO DO THIS PAINT PROJECT
| Step
1: Ensure you have a clean dry surface before painting,
then using a ruler to measure the distance, divide the
area into three horizontal bands and m ark them with a
pencil line. A spirit level will help you get a truly perpendicular
line, and the ruler will help you keep the line straight. |
 |
| |
|
| Step
2: Working from the bottom of the wall, position one
strip of masking tape (following the pencil marks) on top
of stripe one and two and three creating three equal sized
bands. Make sure the tape makes contact with the wall to
stop paint seeping underneath. Check with a spirit level
to ensure straight lines. |
 |
| |
|
| Step
3: Decant some of the darker green paint into
a paint tray and paint the lower stripe up to the masking
tape using a paint roller. Work from the top to bottom
of the wall as you apply the paint with the roller.
If you don’t have a second paint roller
and tray, wash out the roller and tray in soapy
water and rinse thoroughly before starting on the
next colour. |
 |
| |
|
TIP: If
you use acrylic water-based paints, hands and
painting
tools can be easily cleaned with soap and water.

|
| Step
4: Repeat Step Two but this time using the lightest
paint shade, paint the highest stripe inside the masking
tape. |
| |
|
| Step
5: Leave paint to dry thoroughly then remove low-tack
masking tape. |
| |
| Step
6: When paint absolutely dry, position fresh
low-tack masking tape along the top edge of the lower stripe
and along the bottom edge of the top stripe. Take care
to ensure tape is straight. Repeat Step Two and Four but
this time using the middle shade of paint to fill in the
middle stripe. |
| |
| Step 7: When
paint thoroughly dry remove masking tape to reveal the three
bands of colour. |
