A consumer survey recently conducted
amongst British DIYers on behalf of the Rohm and Haas Paint
Quality Institute revealed that the bedroom is still the
most popular room to paint in the home. In fact, 45% of
the DIY painters spoken to had painted their bedrooms in
the past four months.
Transforming
your bedroom can be great fun, but it can result in
sleepless nights if you get the paint job wrong.

Water-borne acrylic paints
are particularly suitable for painting in the bedroom,
for both the walls/ceilings and wooden furniture - here's
why:
- Save Time: Pastel blues are
brilliant for bedrooms because they are calming and
restful, but they do show marks and dirt more quickly
than darker colours. By choosing a wipeable, water-based
acrylic paint you won't have to spend time re-decorating
so frequently. Choose cool, Scandinavian colours for
a sunny bedroom, and if you're using it in a north-facing
room, stick to livelier shades, like aqua or turquoise.
- Save Money: Buying cheap paint
is a false economy as you will need at least twice as
many coats to achieve.
A good finish or to cover the original surface
colour, than with a quality paint. PQI TIP:
Did you know that the colour finish of quality paints
lasts longer? Make sure you buy the best you can afford.
- Save yourself a trip to the spare room:
Water-based acrylic paints dry quicker and have less
odour than solvent-based paints so you can sleep in
your newly decorated bedroom after just a few hours.
PQI TIP: Always remember to have
good ventilation when painting!
Steps to Success
for Painting Wooden Furniture:
|
- If the surface is previously unpainted,
check if it has any knots. If so, carefully apply
a knotting solution and allow to dry.
|
- After that, apply a coat of primer, and allow
to dry.
|
|
 |
- Then apply one or two coats of pure acylic, water-borne
trim paint
|
- If the surface is already painted
remove any old or flaking paint by scraping or sanding
carefully with a fine sandpaper.
- Wash the surface thoroughly to make sure it is
totally clean, before applying one or preferably
two coats of pure acrylic, water-borne top-coat
trim pain
- Cleaning up more easily.. Rinsing
out brushes after painting with water-borne paint
is pretty easy - rinsing thoroughly with warm water
and soap will do the trick. No white spirit necessary,
and definitely gentler on the skin

PQI TIP:
Choose bedroom furniture that's elegant and lean for an
uncluttered look. |
