TECHNIQUE
Step 1: Here, a warm and rich rose pink acrylic emulsion has been chosen for the basecoat. Paint this and allow this to dry thoroughly overnight.
Step 2: Measure the height and width of the wall; then decide how many strips you would like. Measuring from the skirting up, make a series of small marks with a pencil at four points running equally along the width of wall.
Step 3: Run strips of decorator’s tape, (better than masking tape, as it comes off easily and without removing new paint) horizontally across the wall, making sure that you use pencil marks to keep the tape straight.
Step 4: To prepare the glaze, add approximately 5 teaspoons of pearl colouriser and half a teaspoon of orange colouriser, to 1ltr of acrylic glaze, (this covers approximately 10-20 sq meters). Generally speaking the more colouriser added, the more intense a colour is produced. You may need to add a few tablespoons of water if the weather is warm, so that the consistency is in-between single cream and milk.
Step 5: Using a wide soft bristle brush apply the glaze with vertical brush strokes, smoothing out the glaze so that some of the background colour shows through.
Step 6: Remove the tape carefully and discard. This glaze will require some time to dry. Overnight, it will be touch dry but it does take a few days before it is completely dry.
TIP: When painting metallic effects brush marks are common. To make sure the look is consistent use a short pile synthetic roller and most importantly apply it consistently in the same way across the whole area.
