All shades of mauve will be a big hit in home decoration this summer after their debut in the fashion world this past season. Pale shades of mauve and purple have an almost ephemeral quality, whilst the cooler shades of mauve-grey create a calming environment – ideal for a bedroom or living room.

Use this mauve-grey colour combination to create the illusion of a wallpaper pattern with a large stencil motif – for best results, use a high quality paint in a matt finish. Although you have to invest a little time to decorate a wall with an all-over stencil, it is in fact invariably cheaper and more hard-wearing than wallpaper.
