Soft creams, stone and duck egg blue are a winning colour combination and are used here to create a Nordic-style setting. A dado rail divides the colours and above the dado a hand-painted design of leaves and simple branches adorns the wall. Painted floorboards are decorated here in a similar hand-painted design in blue against ivory.

If you’re not comfortable with free-style painting, you can use a stencil. When painting your floorboards, go for a high quality eggshell or gloss finish paint; for added durability, use an acrylic varnish to seal the surface.
