The recent trend for stark black and white softens this season into more muted tones of greys, mixed with ivory whites, to give an extremely stylish, even regal touch. Delicately carved furniture with intricate detailing is painted in softer shades of white and lends a contrast to the grey walls.

Grey tones are sophisticated and work well with both period or modern settings – but remember to prepare surfaces properly, and apply one or two coats of high quality water-based topcoat for a great finish. Embellish the grey wall with a delicate, lace-effect stencil design painted just above the skirting board – stylish, sophisticated and simple to do.
