When summer temperatures soar, chill out with the latest glacial shades. Conceived as a direct alternative to the neutrals, this look utilises the same clean lines, but the subtle injection of colour along with the use of varying tactile surfaces such as suede, fur, carpet and textured finishes ensures a more relaxed lived-in approach. Paint surfaces can be anything from matt and chalky finishes, through to shiny sheens, textures and the latest suede effects, with the ideal scenario consisting of a combination of all three.

However, if you are using high sheen paints, remember that the key to a successful finish is to ensure good preparation work. Surfaces should be clean and smooth as every blemish and bump will be on display. For those with less than perfect walls stick to matt and textured finishes as these help minimise the problem. Whatever your finish choose a good quality acrylic and bear in mind that your ultimate aim is to combine both varying colours and textures, for instant visual impact.
