Click on the small images to discover how to get this look.

Over the last few years, we have all witnessed the resurgence of handcrafted artefacts with both beading and patchwork readily seen on the catwalk and in our homes. Now it is the turn of embroidery, and its delicate intricacies brings a new warmth and homeliness to today's contemporary interiors, adding a welcoming personal touch that many feel has been lacking of late. Take a look down any high street and you will soon discover this ancient art form adorning fabric panels, cushions, throws and window treatments, with designs ranging from the truly traditional, through to folk art and geometrics.

However, before you rush off to your local department store, think about adding some welcome embellishment to plain walls with a few faux stitches. All you require is a steady hand and a good base to work upon. So ensure walls are coated in a good acrylic paint to guarantee good coverage and a smooth even finish. Then team with and eclectic mix of old and new for that relaxed, modern look, rather than granny's back room.
