The inspiration
is 1930’s architecture – clean-cut, pared
down and extracting the best from Art Deco –
its refined and deluxe side.
Colours appear and imitate industrial materials, frosted
glass, concrete, slate and mirrored metallic finishes,
some with tiny metallic particles that add a seductive
lustre to a cool palette.
Clutter is hidden. Everything is clean and simple.
There is order and nothing is random. The appearance
is of expensive simplicity. Shapes are a mixture of
curved set against straight. Antique against ultra
modern.
Painted surfaces are a combination of ultra matt and
high gloss positioned next to one another for maximum
impact. A table painted with high gloss resides next
to an ultra matt wall with a painted lamp base in
copper. Metallic is very important to this look, helping
it look amazing, reflecting and illuminating the space.
This look is an expensive one, but doesn’t have
to cost a lot – only a little can go a long
way!
