Click on the small images to discover how to get this look.

Striking black and white combinations have been hovering around the perimeters of interior styling for a while now, but this winter sees it come into its own, with strong geometric shapes and patterning, that is, in turn, subtly softened with pale grey tones and plenty of lustrous surfaces such as chrome or high gloss paint finishes.

Remember, if you are using high sheen paints, the key to a successful finish is to ensure good preparation work. Walls or woodwork should be thoroughly clean and smooth as every blemish and bump will be on display. Choose a good quality acrylic paint and brush and ensure you apply in thin even layers. Alternatively opt for ultra matt walls in warm white or grey to offset graphic bold designs. Again choose an acrylic based paint and apply with a roller for a soft slightly textural surface. Finish with rich woods and  dark or chrome furnishings to complete the look.
