Fabrics are sumptuous and tactile, with deep pile velvets trimmed with elegant beading, set against thick woollen chenille throws. Walls are painted in neutral warm grey shades to accentuate the injection of colour, whilst a coffee table is spray painted in the deepest of blues.
For tradition with a twist, walls are panelled using strips of mdf, glued in place, and painted in dramatic dark plum. Floors are left bare or painted in rich tones, whilst existing furniture and accessories can be updated with metallic paint finishes. Accents of rich red and golden beige complete the look.
Strong simple lines are the key to the modernist interpretation of this warming scheme. Subtle greys and taupes, highlight blocks of plum, whilst retro-style motifs such as circles and squares can be stencilled or stamped onto walls and furnishings to enliven the scheme and co-ordinate with matching soft furnishings.
